Ammanford Police Station
IWS was commissioned to undertake a full plantroom refurbishment at Ammanford Police Station, replacing an ageing oil-fired heating system with a modern, energy-efficient boiler installation.
The project formed part of an essential mechanical upgrade to improve system performance, reliability, and sustainability across the building. Delivered by the IWS Mechanical Division for the public sector, the works were completed within one week, ensuring continued heating provision throughout. The project demonstrated IWS’s ability to deliver high-quality mechanical refurbishments within operational environments, providing a future-proof heating system designed to meet the long-term requirements of the police estate.
The primary objectives of this project were to remove the existing oil-fired heating system, install a new high-efficiency boiler and associated controls, and ensure uninterrupted heating supply during the transition period. IWS was tasked with delivering a fully compliant installation that would significantly enhance energy performance and reduce maintenance demands.
The solution needed to improve both reliability and environmental efficiency, aligning with broader public sector sustainability goals. Minimising disruption to the station’s operations was a key priority, requiring careful planning, sequencing, and the temporary installation of a heating system to maintain comfortable conditions for staff and building users throughout the works.
IWS managed the complete scope of mechanical works associated with the plantroom refurbishment. This included the safe removal and decommissioning of the existing oil-fired system, installation of new boilers, pumps, and controls, and commissioning of the upgraded heating infrastructure. A temporary heating system was installed to maintain service continuity during the replacement works.
The project required detailed coordination between IWS engineers, site management, and client representatives to ensure the programme ran efficiently and safely. Upon completion, the new system was fully tested, balanced, and commissioned in accordance with manufacturer standards, ensuring optimal performance and regulatory compliance.
The key challenge for this project was ensuring continuous heating provision throughout the replacement process. As the police station remained fully operational during the works, IWS implemented a temporary heating solution that maintained comfort conditions without disrupting day-to-day operations.
Limited plantroom space also required careful planning for the removal and installation of mechanical components, while maintaining compliance with stringent safety and security protocols specific to police environments. Effective communication, methodical sequencing, and close client collaboration were essential to overcoming these challenges and ensuring the works were delivered seamlessly within the planned timeframe.
The Ammanford Police Station plantroom refurbishment was completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The installation of the new energy-efficient boiler and control system delivered significant performance and environmental benefits, ensuring reliable and cost-effective heating for years to come.
IWS successfully maintained continuous service throughout the project, demonstrating exceptional planning and operational management. The finished installation met all mechanical, safety, and compliance requirements, providing the client with a robust and sustainable heating solution that supports long-term operational efficiency within the police estate.
